Department Introduction

Silicon Lake Vocational and Technical Institute set up the Department of Urban Construction in 2002, which was later renamed the Department of Construction Engineering. With the construction of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone and the development needs of the institute, and to meet the local demand for various professionals, the School of Architecture and Environmental Engineering was established in June 2017. At present, our college consists of five majors: construction engineering management, engineering cost, construction engineering technology, road and bridge engineering technology, and pharmaceutical biotechnology. It is now enrolling students nationwide. In addition, the original majors of building information technology, engineering supervision, environmental engineering technology, and food biotechnology have been suspended. In the 2020 enrollment plan, the recruitment of construction engineering management and road and bridge engineering technology has been suspended.

Currently, there are 596 students in the School of Construction and Engineering, among which are 270 students majoring in pharmaceutical biotechnology in 2017 and 2018, who entered the enterprise internship and 326 students in 2018 and 2019, who are still study at campus. The registered students of construction majors are 187 in 2017, 122 in 2018, and 146 in 2019. The enrollment of pharmaceutical biotechnology major is relatively stable, the registered students of each year can be a teaching class (about 40-60 students).

After more than ten years of development, the School of Architecture and Environmental Engineering has continuously introduced highly educated professors and senior business experts to enrich the teaching team, and gradually formed a double-qualified professional teaching team with high knowledge, outstanding practical ability and rich teaching experience. At present, there are nearly 27 teachers in our school, all of whom have bachelor's degree or above. There are 12 full-time teachers, among which 2 teachers with the professional title associate professor, 5 teachers with intermediate professional title, 3 teachers with junior titles, 2 laboratory administrators, and 4 teachers with the master degree, 80% teachers are with dual-qualification teachers, each teacher has rich professional knowledge and age structure of the team is reasonable.

In recent years, the construction scale of training conditions in our college has been gradually expanded, and a total of more than 4 million yuan has been invested in experimental training facilities. There are currently 6 training rooms for architecture majors, which are registered in the Academic Affairs Office. The 6 training rooms are BIM computer room training room, building materials laboratory, measurement laboratory, geotechnical laboratory, mechanics laboratory, and construction work training room. Among them, the geotechnical laboratory equipment is outdated, and the mechanics laboratory equipment can not be normally used. There are 7 laboratories in the specialty of pharmaceutical biotechnology, Including engineering chemistry laboratory, preparation room, microscopic identification laboratory, measurement analysis laboratory, pharmaceutical preparation laboratory, instrument analysis laboratory, and specimen showroom. Our school has carried out school-enterprise cooperation projects with more than 20 companies, carried out teaching reforms through school-enterprise cooperation, and innovated practical training reforms. After continuous and bold attempts by our college, especially in the areas of student employment, talent exchange, teaching and research, and basic resource sharing, it has truly achieved joint enrollment, joint training, and integrated teaching and education with enterprises, and has achieved good results.

Our college attaches great importance to the quality of teaching and the cultivation of students' theoretical and practical abilities. In recent years, our school has achieved outstanding results in various competitions, and has also achieved good results in professional competitions across the country, Jiangsu Province, and Suzhou City.

Under the guidance of "Building Virtue, Setting up the consciousness of honesty and credit, Cultivating skills, and Carrying forward the skills", our college has always adhered to connotation construction, attached great importance to the application of socialist core values in teaching and student management, and regards the training of students as the primary task of our college.
